Alan Penczek Service Learning Fund

A Service Learning Fund has been established with the intent of providing financial aid to faculty with an interest in incorporating credit-based service learning into their courses.  The purpose will be to defray costs associated with service projects for faculty or students.  Faculty will be able to request grants up to $3,000 per course, which will be reviewed by a three member committee. Interested faculty should contact Dr. Leeanne Bell, Ms. Marilyn Julius, or Dr. Alan Penczek.

The goal of Service Learning at SU is to better educate students by integrating academics with community service. Service learning is a way for students to try new things, connect campus and community, see course content from a different angle, and reflect upon possibilities for personal and social change.

To apply for funds from the Alan Penczek Service Learning Fund the project should:

  • Incorporate some type of service learning feature
  • Be connected to a credit bearing course or One Credit Option (OCO)
    • It is not necessary for all students in the course to participate in the service learning activity
