Program Requirements
The Honors Program is comprised of three parts: an Honors freshmen seminar, a series of interdisciplinary seminars, and a Learning Beyond experience. Students are required to take a minimum of 3, but not more than 4 honors seminars. Each seminar can count towards fulfilling one core requirement. For example, the seminar "Art meets Physics" can count as either the a fine arts requirement OR a non-lab science requirement. A minimum of 6 credits of a Learning Beyond experience.
Learning Beyond
Possible ideas for fulfilling the Learning Beyond requirement include: internships, research projects, research project courses, study abroad, service learning courses, or independent study with a willing professor. Students must discuss their Learning Beyond experience with Dr. Freedman, the Program Director, to verify its eligibility for credit. Paid-only co-ops do not qualify, however some co-ops include strong academic components and may count towards fulfilling the requirement. Many departments already provide these opportunities as part of their curriculum.
Retention
In order to remain in good standing, Honors students are required to maintain a 3.3 cumulative grade point average. A cumulative grade point average between 3.0 and 3.3 will place a student under probation. Students have two semesters to improve their cumulative grade point average. In addition, if you are on probation, you MUST see the director. A cumulative grade point average of less than a 3.0 will disqualify you from participation in the Honors Program.
