Business & Technology Management

Master of Science

The master's in Business and Technology Management degree is designed for the business professional to develop a practical working knowledge of today's information technologies. Successful companies rely on a core information technology infrastructure to carry out daily operations. These mission-critical systems contain the rules and key data on a company's products, services, and customers. Internal information systems are often custom designed in-house or outsourced to satisfy the requirements of the organizations and businesses they support. Managing these technologies and their development requires knowledge of the best practices in systems planning and design as well as IT-area project management.

The BTM program addresses this best practices need on three levels: the organization, the individual, and the technological. The program core begins by providing an overview of the organization's processes and the systems that support them to achieve the corporation's goals. The core of the program is supported by courses dealing with the concepts of human cognition and creativity, which address the reasons why IT systems fail. Armed with this knowledge, the IT systems professional can be creative and innovative in more accurately solving the organization's problems. The elective courses address business and technology management in five key areas: operating environments, software engineering methods, application, integration, and skills necessary to manage the organization's increasingly complex IT environment.
