Middle School Education (Grade 4 through 9)

The Middle School Education program is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and dispositions to become successful teachers of adolesent learners (grades four through nine). Students may choose a track in English/Language Arts and Social Studies or a track in Math and Science, both of which include a rigorous program of courses. Students who enroll in the program will spend their entire senior year working in classrooms at nearby Pikesville Middle School.

Stevenson's is the state's first teacher preparation program designed specifically for middle school education. The Middle School Education program prepares students for a successful career and gives them the knowledge to meet the unique needs of students in the middle school age group.

The Education Department at Stevenson Univerisity prepares competent and highly qualified educators who:

  • demonstrate competency in the liberal arts, math, and science;
  • understand the implications of technology and use it to enable students to become successful learners;
  • develop the ability to effectively teach curriculum content so that all students achieve success;
  • engage in classroom inquiry and reflection on practice, and
  • demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of communities and cultures in order to interact with diverse groups of people.

What can you do with this degree?
Graduates of the Middle School Education program accept teaching positions in public and private institutions both in Maryland and other states across the country. Other graduates go on to pursue master's degrees in the field of education.
