Schedule Planning and Registration Basics

MAKE ADVISING APPOINTMENT AND CONFIRM ELIGIBILTIY:

  1. Make an appointment with your advisor now - most advisors have a sign-up sheet on their office door but some prefer e-mail.  Find out who your advisor is from your degree audit report in WebXpress, then look up the contact info in the “Directory” (link is at bottom of the SU webpage.) Students with fewer than 30 credits or no declared major, and students in certain programs, can not register without consulting an advisor and getting checked off in WebXpress.
  2. Confirm that you do not have a block on your registration because of an owed balance or lack of completed health form (if in doubt try viewing your transcript WebXpress – if OK then eligible to register).

SCHEDULE PLANNING BEFORE YOU MEET WITH YOUR ADVISOR:

  1. Consult your degree audit to select logical next semester courses in the major, then select non-major courses that fulfill core curriculum requirements or general elective credits (if needed).
Check the "Schedule of Classes" online publication from SU homepage “quicklinks” menu, or the "Search for Classes" area of WebXpress, to see available courses and times.
  2. Make a list of preferred sections for each proposed course and at least one alternate section and/or course (use a blank schedule grid if you want to visualize your schedule).

AT THE ADVISOR MEETING:

  1. Bring the following to the advising meeting: 1) Your Registration form, which is available from WebXpress, 2) Your degree audit, and 3) Your preliminary schedule plan.
  2. Discuss the proposed schedule with consideration of prerequisites, restrictions by major, workload limitations, club/athletic. commitments, academic preparedness, career development, etc.
  3. Have the advisor sign the Registration form (he or she may add comments if there are unapproved courses or other issues), and remind the Advisor to do the "Advisee registration checkoff" in WebXpress.

REGISTRATION:

  1. Before you register - go to WebXpress and enter your "preferred section" choices so that when you actually register online the process will be quicker (make sure the sections you want are still open and if closed select alternates).
  2. Register online as close to your assigned time as possible.
  3. Print out your schedule, double check it and make sure your SU email account gets a schedule confirmation email.
  4. Within a week turn in your signed Registration form to the Registrar's Office (if needed, alter your Registration form to match what you actually registered for and consult again with your advisor for signed approval).
