Kevin J. Manning, now in his 15th year as president of Stevenson University, was selected for the position after an extensive national search that involved the Board, students, faculty, and staff of Maryland’s third-largest independent university. The institution changed its name to Stevenson University in June 2008.

Dr. Manning has more than 40 years of experience in higher education. Before coming to Stevenson, he was Vice President for Development and College Relations at Immaculata University in Pennsylvania. Prior to Immaculata University, Dr. Manning held key administrative positions at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, and at Washington University in St. Louis.

Key Accomplishments (2000 - 2014)

  • Successfully guided Villa Julie College through change to university status and new name
  • Following the name change to Stevenson and adoption of university status, developed a comprehensive university model encompassing six schools: the Brown School of Business and Leadership, the School of Design, the School of Education, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of the Sciences, and the School of Graduate and Professional Studies
  • Doubled student enrollment at Stevenson since 2000
  • Recognized as a Maryland Innovator of the Year by The Daily Record in September 2003 for his introduction of Career ArchitectureSM, a career strategic plan program for students
  • Saw Stevenson recognized as one of America’s "Up-and-Comer" universities for four times in U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" rankings
  • Maintained quality programs while offering one of the lowest private university tuitions in the country ("Best Value" designation, U.S.News & World Report 8/07 and 8/08, "School to Watch" 8/09)
  • Forged relationships with Baltimore-area employers to increase internship participation for students and to continually develop students with skill sets employers seek
  • Placed career education front and center, helping Stevenson achieve an average 92% job and/or graduate school placement rate for its students within six months of graduation
  • Coordinated development of the first faculty governance plan
  • Established formal External Relations and Marketing "image" campaign for the University
  • Expanded University’s School of Graduate and Professional Studies and introduced the area’s first accelerated programs; launched a Master’s Degree in Forensic Studies, Stevenson's first online program
  • Brought nursing education through Stevenson's RN to BS program to the majority of community colleges in Maryland and expanded graduate nursing education through the School of Graduate and Professional Studies and distance learning innovations
  • Expanded the Board of Trustees and President's Advisory Council
  • Developed a second campus in Owings Mills, transforming the University from a commuter school to a residential campus and Owings Mills into a "collegetown"
  • Doubled, in terms of property, the size of the University and grew actual facility space by 500%
  • Doubled Stevenson’s staff and increased its number of faculty by more than 50%
  • Developed and achieved a campaign goal for the first formal capital campaign strategy for the University
  • Received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2007 Award in Education in Maryland
  • Introduced the Baltimore Speakers Series to the region with seven renowned speakers annually
  • Authored chapter "Doing More with Less: Transforming a Program through Technology" in President to President: Views on Technology in Higher Education, 2010; and "Leadership and Change" in Presidential Perspectives: Economic Prosperity in the Next Decade, 2010
  • Authored the op-eds "Is higher education leading to gainful employment," The Baltimore Sun (2010) and "Lessons learned from an unplanned lockdown," The Baltimore Sun (2014), and regularly blogs on The Huffington Post
  • Named one of "Maryland's Most Admired CEOs" by The Daily Record, September 2014

Dr. Manning and his wife, Sara, reside in Hunt Valley, Maryland and have three children and two grandchildren.
