Stevenson Welcomes Johns Hopkins University’s James J. Potter for Second Annual Dell Lecture, Feb. 19

Stevenson University‘s School of the Sciences will host Johns Hopkins University Assistant Professor of Medicine James J. Potter for the School’s second annual Dell Lecture, Wednesday, February 19, 5-6:30 p.m. in the University’s Inscape Theatre, located on the Greenspring Campus, 1525 Greenspring Valley Road, Stevenson, MD 21153. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

Potter is also Johns Hopkins’ Director of Technology and Information Services, Director of the Translational Research Enhancement Core, and Director of the Tissue Repository. His talk is titled, “Science and Lifelong Learning in Exponential Times.”

The event is named in honor of Stevenson Trustee Samuel M. Dell III and his late wife Geraldine Dell, who established the Dell Scholarship for Character and Excellence in the Sciences, which is awarded to outstanding Stevenson rising juniors studying biology, chemistry, and mathematics. Raised in Baltimore, Dell holds a Master’s in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Cornell University. He spent more than 35 years in the petroleum industry working for the Exxon Corporation and its affiliates around the world.

The scholarship is presented annually to students who possess strong ethical grounding and work ethic that result in both academic and personal success. Additional selection criteria includes being a team contributor; demonstrating the ability to apply theoretical concepts to solve practical problems in the sciences; achieving academic excellence; an appreciation for cultural diversity; and a commitment to personal growth and development. This year’s recipient is junior Lindsay Nicole Beyer, an Applied Mathematics major.
