New Stevenson University Pep Band to Debut at Men’s and Women’s Basketball Games, Jan. 28
Stevenson University’s newly formed pep band will perform for the first time when the University’s basketball teams play host to Messiah Thursday, Jan. 28. The women’s basketball game tips off at 6 p.m. followed by the men’s contest at 8 p.m.
An extension of the well-established marching band, the pep band will be a regular feature at basketball home games and will also perform at open houses and other select University events. The pep band will aim to inject a new dynamic into Stevenson’s home-court advantage.
“The energy generated by the band will help to engage all students, faculty, and staff in attendance,” said Terrell Smith, Director of the Pep Band. “We’ll play ‘shorts’ of popular songs as well as music specifically designed to pump up the crowd.”
Included in the musical arsenal are new drum beats performed by the band’s drumline as well as various horn calls from the woodwinds section. The band will also work hand-in-hand with Mustang Cheer and the Mustang Maniacs in an effort to produce an enhanced game day experience.
"Our fan support over the last few years has been incredible. Adding the pep band will only enhance the entire student experience and make for some very exciting games,” said Jackie Boswell, Head Women’s Basketball Coach. “We are looking forward to their debut and their support."
Stevenson University, known for its distinctive career focus, is the third-largest independent university in Maryland with more than 4,400 students pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and adult bachelor’s programs at locations in Stevenson and Owings Mills.
