Visual Communication Design Exhibition Features Work of Graduating Seniors

April 4, 2014 9:45 AM

Stevenson University’s Visual Communication Design majors will host their annual Senior Exhibition from April 17 to May 23 in the Art Gallery on Stevenson University's Greenspring Campus. The gallery is located at 1525 Greenspring Valley Road, Stevenson, MD 21153, and is open to the public Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursdays, 11 a.m.-8 p.m., and Saturdays, 1-4 p.m. A free public reception for the exhibition, entitled “MemoRandom,” will be held in the Gallery on Thursday, April 17, 6-8 p.m.

“The exhibition is an engaging, provoking reflection and analysis of the messages we create and receive,” said Lori Rubeling, Professor of Art at Stevenson University. “This year’s class has spent time observing and analyzing our relationship to social media. In an age of digital interconnectedness, messages are more prevalent than ever. This show draws upon our web-based behaviors and attitudes and engagement in the powerful world of message-making.”

Featured works include iconography, text, motion graphics, and sculptures. The exhibition celebrates the talents of graduating Visual Communication Design majors who conceived, designed, and installed the work for this show as a culmination of their Stevenson academic experience. This year’s exhibition highlights the work of seniors Nick Crossen, Derrick Cullen, Jack Darlington, Katie Fersch, Caitlin Foarde, Chris Jaeger, Abby Monson, and Kristina Rowe.

“This exhibition allows me the opportunity to showcase the skills I have learned here at Stevenson, and I will get to do it in my own unique way, with creative freedom,” said Kristina Rowe, senior Visual Communication Design major. “It is a big opportunity to explore design more freely and possibly find a niche.”
