It's Kind of Pretty... by Nicole Dyer
Nicole Dyer’s artwork examines the human need for the presence of others and the contradictions of our daily lives. Her paintings and sculptures capture everyday objects and activities, imbuing them with nostalgia’s sense of significance but keeping them grounded in their mundane nature. Fleeting experiences can be over in an instant but preserved forever on social media. Emotions can be transferred from a crush to the memory of their cluttered living space. Food can bring us together or create an obsessive pursuit for physical perfection. By foregrounding the evidence of our lived experience, Dyer illustrates the interrelation of our socialization and our social media.
