The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research (OSPR) supports students and faculty members in their work of scholarship and research.
OSPR resources and activities that are provided to help advance the scholarship and research interests of students and faculty include:
- Enhanced Institutional Membership for the Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR). All members of the University community (faculty, administrators, staff, and students) have access to these enhanced membership benefits.
- Grant proposal writing and submission support
- Funded project administration for internal and external grant awards,
- Reporting and compliance support for externally funded awards
- Faculty conference funding
- Training resources, including required Responsible Conduct of Research training offered by the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) through the Biomedical Research Alliance of New York (BRANY)
- Support for faculty application to external scholarship programs, including Fulbright programs

Mission
The mission of the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research is to:
- Assist faculty and staff in grant proposal preparation.
- Foster collaborations with local institutions, government research facilities, and private industry.
- Connect students with appropriate summer research opportunities.
- Provide pre-award and post-award oversight.
- Support faculty development.
Activities
The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research:
- Assists in preparing and submitting external grant proposals, including serving as the Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR) for federal proposals.
- Administers internal and external grant awards.
- Ensures compliance with sponsor agency requirements.
- Assists students to identify and secure summer research opportunities.
- Administers faculty conference funding.
- Administers internal faculty grants.
Support
The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research was created in 2006 with the support of a 3-year NIH Extramural Associates Research Development Award (EARDA). A 5-year NIH Biomedical/Biobehavioral Research Administration Development (BRAD) Award provided extended support from 2011 through 2014. The office is now fully supported by Stevenson University.
Training
The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research (OSPR) offers both required and optional training activities for faculty, staff and students.
CITI Training
All students, faculty, and staff members, involved in research at Stevenson University are required to take appropriate training to ensure that they understand the legal and ethical rules of research.
Our office administers this required research training through on-line courses provided by the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI), through the Biomedical Research Alliance of New York (BRANY)

- Conflicts of Interest
- Social & Behavioral Research
- Course-based Research

Policies & Forms
External Grant Submissions
The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research facilitates the preparation and submission of funding requests to external agencies and organizations, including research and non-research grant programs offered by government agencies and research grant programs offered by certain foundations.
Prior to preparing any grant proposal, Project Directors/Principal Investigators should contact the OSPR to ensure that internal approvals for a grant application and submission are obtained. In addition, certain government funded research and projects require the completion of Financial Interest Disclosures and Training. The OSPR facilitates all necessary documentation and training, and keeps it on file.
When a grant proposal is approved and funded, the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research and the Office of University Advancement (as applicable) will work closely with the Project Director/Principal Investigator to ensure that all conditions and reporting requirements of the funding are met.
Institutional Review Board
Research involving human subjects is overseen by the University’s Institutional Review Board. Members of the Stevenson University community can find the required forms on the IRB portal page. Please direct any questions to Dr. Ryan Schurtz, Professor, Psychology and Chair, IRB at irb@stevenson.edu.
