How To Get an Internship
Internships have a number of benefits and allow you to apply the education and training you’ve obtained in class while working with and learning from professionals in your field of interest.
Finding an internship that suits you is similar to finding a job. It’s likely that you will need to:
- Search for the position and apply with a resume, cover letter, or other materials like a writing sample or portfolio
- Interview for the position
- Figure out a schedule that works for you and your supervisor
- Arrange your own transportation to and from your work site
As a Stevenson student, you will have the option of completing an internship for academic credit or as a non-credit experience. Your academic department will advise you on course and placement requirements if you are doing an internship for credit, while non-credit internships can be arranged through the Office of Career Services.
For both credit and non-credit internships, Career Services can help you find an internship experience that supports your personal, academic, or professional goals. You are encouraged to meet with your Industry Specialist or Liaison to discuss your goals and interests, and to get tips on where to find and how to apply to internships in your field.
